It’s a great journey. And, it begins at Fredric H. Rubel.
We hear it every day. Amazing stories of kindred spirits. How two people fell in love. How you got from there to here has been an amazing journey, and now it’s time to find the perfect expression of that love. Finding an engagement ring that is truly a reflection of you can be a daunting task. There’s an enormous amount of information out there, and so much misinformation. That’s why it’s so important to find a jeweler who takes the time to get to know you. A jeweler who is trustworthy and credentialed. In fact, Fredric H. Rubel is a member of one of the most credentialed industry organizations – The American Gem Society (https://www.americangemsociety.org/default.aspx). Less than 10% of retail jewelers across the country have the ability to be a member. As the country’s preeminent trade organization dedicated to consumer protection, we must maintain the highest ethical and gemological standards and industry accreditation. When it’s time to buy that engagement ring, you can rest assured, you’ve come to the right jeweler.
Seeing is believing.
When you walk into Fredric H. Rubel, you’re walking into a jewelry store that’s comfortable and unintimidating. We’re not here to simply sell you an engagement ring. We’re here to educate you and make the process easy. We’ve helped thousands of customers in Orange County find an engagement ring that fits their style, and yes, budget. After all, finding the person you want to spend the rest of your life with is a big deal. Finding the perfect engagement ring to celebrate that accomplishment is just as memorable. We’re going to make the shopping process easy and fun. Step in our store. Seeing is truly believing.
From top designers to top design.
When you begin the engagement ring process on our website or in our store, you’ll most likely realize our penchant for design and designers. We represent some of the best, from Jack Kelége, Steven Kretchmer, Harry Kotlar and Michael B. to the world’s most sought after diamonds from Kwiat to Lazare Kaplan. It all starts by getting to know you. An engagement ring should be a reflection of who you are and your lifestyle. So, we’re going to take a little time to get to know you. For example, is the person who will be wearing the ring very active? You may want to consider metals that are more durable. Are there issues with metal allergies? You’ll want to strongly consider platinum, which is hypoallergenic. Is your style very contemporary? Then we’ll select only those styles that meet that criteria. Vintage? We’ve got it. The point is, we are here to guide you through the process. And, we couldn’t be more excited!

Colored Stone Engagement Rings
Color. A new engagement ring alternative we love.
Engagement ring trends are changing all the time. The largest trend we’ve seen over the last few years is adding color. Colored precious gemstones, to colored diamonds. Fancy something a little out of the ordinary? A growing number of fashion-savvy brides to be are opting for fancy diamonds, from natural yellow to pale pinks, to blue. All of which are rare, beautiful and certainly uncommon. And then there are rubies, which range the spectrum of rich scarlet to pinkish reds. There are also stunning sapphires, most known for their vivid blues but also available in a magnificent array of colors Several years ago, Princess Diana started the trend with her blue sapphire engagement ring. Kate Middleton continued the trend. No matter where it began, color is without a doubt a great alternative to a white diamond ring.
The meaning of color.
If you’ve made the decision to choose a colored engagement ring, you’ve already decided to step out-of-the-box. You might simply be choosing a colored diamond or gemstone just for the look. We thought you would be interested to know each color gemstone has meaning. And, perhaps a few of these will take you in a certain direction for your engagement ring.
Engagement Ring Trends
When thinking about engagement rings not everyone thinks about trends. But, there are trends that come and go. For example, pear-shaped diamonds were very popular in the 1970s, but were replaced with other fancy cut diamonds in the 1980’s. And now, pear-shaped styles are back and more popular than ever. The truth is, you should always buy an engagement ring that speaks to you, on-trend or not. Here are a few examples of what is trending in the world of engagement rings. Maybe one will ensure a yes!
Minimalist Round Cuts
Round cut diamond engagement rings have been in style for many, many years and it doesn’t appear that trend is slowing down anytime soon. Simple settings are not only breathtaking, but also very popular for the classic bride-to-be who wants a style that’s elegant, and not over the top.
If you’re contemplating color, you might want to consider colored diamonds. More rare than a white diamond, there’s nothing quite like a fancy yellow colored diamond to set yourself apart.
Rose Gold Rings
Rose gold has been trending for a few years now and is showing no signs of losing ground. We especially love it when it’s mixed with white gold or platinum. The look can be bold or feminine but always flattering. Rose gold is romantic and appears in several of our ring collections.
Precious Colored Gemstones
Those looking for a ring with a pop of color will be happy to hear that engagement rings featuring colored gemstones are still in vogue. From subtle to striking, colored precious gemstones like emeralds and blue sapphires are sure to be a standout choice to switch up a classic engagement ring.
Everything old is new again. These diamonds were extremely popular in the 1970s and now back in style. Pear-shaped diamonds in mixed metals scream modern and fashion-forward, especially when paired with rose gold or set with pavé diamonds around the center diamond. The elongated cut also tends to have a bigger appearance and is flattering on any finger.
Stacks & More Stacks
Sometimes, one just won’t do when it comes to wearing a diamond wedding band. Thin and dainty ring stacks are a major hit. From white diamonds to mixing color, look for wedding bands to complement nicely with “tiara” style bands that form half-halos around center stones or worn solo. And, they are so very flexible. Wear many, or wear a few. Dress them up or dress them down. We love the look.
The look is somewhat classic and can give a modest-size stone a very big look. Not to mention it can give a big diamond an even bigger look! We are starting to see halos surrounding the center diamond in a different metal.
This style, with two bands running parallel to each other and a gemstone separating them, is both dramatic and trendy. Your center diamond will look like it’s suspended while it sparkles. A split shank look gives the appearance of dueling bands while making the diamond center-stage. Glamorous with just the right amount of sophistication!
Oval Cut Diamonds
For many years, we rarely heard a request for this stunning cut diamond for an engagement ring, and thankfully, that’s changed! This beautiful deviation from the classic round center stone is quickly gaining traction due to its flattering shape and vintage look, especially when paired with a simple band.
Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement, this trend has seen a resurgence in popularity. Although this is not a new look and was part of a major trend to celebrate anniversaries with each gemstone and diamond representing your past, present, and future, now choosing three similarly sized diamonds for the setting is the most updated way to wear it.
Hoping to say “I do?” These trends are popular now, and we anticipate they’ll last a lifetime.
Custom Engagement Rings
At Fredric H. Rubel, we pride ourselves on having the perfect selection. First and foremost, we hand-select every style in our showcases. And, we base that on more than our likes and dislikes. We’ve been in business since 1928 so we have a great understanding of what engagement couples are looking for in Orange County — and specifically our Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo locations. It’s about having a varied selection. It’s not about overwhelming you. It’s about quality versus quantity.
If for some reason you don’t find exactly what you are looking for, we will either find it for you, or we will custom create the ring of your dreams. Sometimes, it’s as simple as incorporating a special element into your engagement ring. It could be something passed down from generations. A setting, or precious gemstone. You may love a setting, and want to switch out the side diamond for a stunning blue sapphire. Modifications are generally easy. Custom designed engagement rings come in all sizes from the complex to the simple. And, we’re here to help every step of the way.
